Its Thanksgiving Time, and the Turkey is the Main Event!
We have officially entered the season of thanksgiving and this year I’m truly excited to celebrate it differently. Culturally, here in the Bahamas we often celebrate thanksgiving by purchasing dinner from the local cooks and restaurants that use this holiday as a way to monopolize financially or by just simply saying happy thanksgiving, but it was in 2019 after experiencing hurricane Dorian and residing in America during the thanksgiving holiday that we learned the true meaning of thanksgiving.
This holiday was designed for us to reflect on all the things we are grateful for that took place throughout the year for us, this holiday is supposed to be a time of reflection to see the many blessings that you have in comparison to those out there who a far less fortunate than you are.
So this year we are taking it on in a different aspect of life and however we are able to be a blessing to someone else this year we want to and this is why I decided that this month’s blog from Focus Foods will be dedicated to the holiday of gratitude.
I usually prepare this meal during the Christmas holiday but change is good isn’t it? So let try this out during Thanksgiving with all intentions to feed someone else!
Time to Cook!
Lemon, Garlic & Parsley Roasted Turkey
1. During the defrosting period, remove the turkey from its wrapping and add it into room temperature water with distilled vinegar and soak until it is completely thawed.
2. Place the whole turkey into a pan and ensure that the turkey is dried and make a slice on each breast in preparation for seasoning.
3. Apply lemon pepper, garlic powder/fresh garlic, sazon, dried crushed pepper and fresh parsley. Rub the turkey inside and out with this seasoning. Season according to your liking and to the size of the turkey.
4. Squeeze 2 lemons inside and out ensuring that the entire turkey has been saturated with the flavor.
5. Cover with Heavy Duty Foil and bake at 390 degrees for a minimum of 1 hour and 30 mins. Gauge your time according to the size of your meat and always test to make sure it’s done by slitting and ensuring there is no more blood presen
